Ever since the first Star Wars film came out back in 1977, Star Wars has been a favorite source of costume ideas, attesting to George Lucas’ genius in creating such an expansive fictional universe. Star Wars costumes are always popular, from Luke Skywalker costumes, Princess Leia costumes, Dart Vader costumes, and Bob and Jango Fett costumes. The characters in the franchise are well-defined, multi-dimensional, and yes, very appealing. If there ever was a franchise that makes you want to play the villain, then Star Wars is it.
Let’s zoom the camera in a bit on Jango Fett. Jango Fett is a bounty hunter, or rather he was a bounty hunter – death changes many things. Anyway, fans of the series will be more familiar with Boba Fett, who is the genetically-identical “son” of Jango. Since they are basically the same person from a genetic standpoint, both can be considered the genetic templates of the whole Clone Army and all the Imperial Stormtroopers.
Jango Fett costumes are popular because people can identify with the character. He personifies skill, being unbound except by his own whims, and yet capable of raising a child of his own. Jango Fett carried an almost mythical presence in the franchise, wielding his dual blasters in the name of credits and adventure, a figure feared for his ruthlessness and admired for his skills. Who does not want to dress up as someone who answers only to himself, and has the skills to provide a living and protect himself?

The bulk of a Jango Fett costume consists of an armored body suit, with segmented plates joined by underlying dark grey and steel blue fabric. Over this he wears two leg holsters, each holding a blaster
pistol, as well as a wide leather belt. His forearms are protected by bracers, and he wears black leather gloves. Then there’s the jetpack – you have to have one of those. Lastly, he dons his helmet, the iconic T-faced headgear that Boba Fett picked up.
Speaking of Boba Fett, his costume is pretty similar to the costume worn by his “father”. The differences lie in the coloration and style of the armor plates, the underlying fabric, and the fact that Boba wears no armor on his legs save for knee pads. A tribute to his father perhaps, but still functional and intimidating. Like his father before him, Boba too became a fearsome bounty hunter, albeit with a dark sense of justice.
Sometimes it is fun to dress up as a supporting character rather than a main character. When you tire of playing the hero, the damsel in semi-distress, or the Big Bad Boss, then you can always turn to the smaller yet still popular supporting characters. A story without a supporting cast is rather flat and lacking in flavor, whereas one with a full cast is an experience to enjoy. To draw a food metaphor, the supporting characters are the salt and spices that add that special something to the dish.
